Impacto da Implementação da Metodologia Lean numa Urgência: Scoping review

Armando David Sousa, Maria Teresa Ramalhal Teixeira Silva Baptista

Abstract

The current political and economic context, which is constantly searching for indicators of effectiveness and quality, but because of the sociocultural context with aging populations, low economic income, the lack of human resources, the degradation of our health institutions and the high health costs, makes the process difficult. This reality is evident in our emergency department (ED), which face the challenge of efficient, quality and safe care on a daily basis, due to overcrowding, reentries, lack of health professionals and lack of beds. The lean methodology is a proposed framework for reorganizing practices and processes, helping to eliminate waste and create value in health. This work intends to map the existing evidence on the benefits of implementing the lean methodology in the emergency department and identify difficulties in its implementation. It was conducted a scoping review using the methodology proposed by Joanna Briggs Institute. We obtained 159 articles and analysed 24 studies that met the inclusion criteria.
